In 2006, Sharon Needelman founded The Barking Lot, a premium full-service pet care company tailored to each client's needs. A company that began as a one-person endeavor quickly blossomed into a fully staffed operation that now includes dog training with an emphasis on dog psychology.

 

Sharon is a graduate of Indiana University with a degree in Business Management.  Her background in pet care began in 2000 with her rescue dog, a Golden Retriever named Curtis, and later a Chicago street cat named Lola. Over time her small family grew to include a Pomeranian named Mimi, a Papillon named Rosie, and a Husky mix named Elvis.  Five more cats eventually joined the mix, all having been rescued off the streets of Rockland County.

 

Sharon served on the board of directors of Hi Tor Animal Shelter for eight years before becoming president of the organization in 2015.  Her work with shelter animals and adoptions helped her hone her skills for matching dogs with families who would best suit their lifestyles and needs. 

 

Her newest endeavor is learning from and working with Cesar Millan ("The Dog Whisperer ").  In 2019 Sharon traveled to Santa Clarita, CA where she studied the Foundations of Dog Psychology and worked directly under Cesar's supervision.  She now works with dog owners in New York and New Jersey helping them establish and maintain balanced relationships with their dogs.  This has proven to be her greatest achievement to date.  Sharon continues to pursue her love of dog psychology through online workshops, seminars and hands-on work in real-world situations.
